🌿 Day 5: How to Answer Questions Without Becoming the Expert
One of the healthiest habits you can build early is this:
You do not need to be the expert.
At Botanic, clarity and honesty matter more than having every answer. In fact, trying to sound like an authority too soon often creates risk rather than confidence.
Here’s how to respond well without overstepping.
Lead with what you know.
Share what you’re actively learning or what the product page clearly states. Stick to ingredients, format, and general intent.
Name the boundary calmly.
It’s completely appropriate to say:
I’m still learning, but here’s what I know so far.
That sentence builds trust, not doubt.
Redirect to primary sources.
Product pages, FAQs, and policies exist so you don’t have to improvise. Pointing someone there shows responsibility.
Avoid translating experiences into outcomes.
Even if someone asks, resist the urge to connect products to specific results. Wellness looks different for everyone.
Pause instead of filling silence.
If you’re unsure, it’s better to say:
Let me check and get back to you.
Expertise grows over time. Credibility is protected by restraint.
