What I Want This Summer To Feel Like
May 25, 2026
I want this summer to feel slower. Simpler. More connected. That is the intention I keep coming back to before the season runs away with itself. More family. More gardening. More reading. More meaningful conversations. More meals that do not need to become events before they count. More time around the kitchen island, on the screen porch, and outside before the day gets too hot. Less noise. Less urgency. Fewer unnecessary obligations. I know summer does not automatically become peaceful just because the calendar changes. A season has to be tended too. If I am not careful, summer can fill with the same pace, pressure, and scattered attention as any other time of year. So I am naming what I want while there is still time to choose it.
I want mornings with light coming through the windows, coffee in hand, music playing softly, and the garden waiting outside. I want to walk the garden before opening the laptop. I want food that is fresh, simple, and useful. I want books nearby. I want people around the kitchen island. I want the house to feel welcoming rather than perfect. That does not mean every day will cooperate. It means I want to choose the feeling I am building toward. That is one of the things I am learning in this season. Some things cannot be forced, but they can be tended. Peace is one of them. Connection is one of them. A meaningful summer is one of them. The small choices matter. What I say yes to. What I leave off the calendar. What I make for dinner. Whether I step outside before the work begins. Whether I pick up the book. Whether I let the house breathe.
I do not want this summer to be full because I failed to choose. I want it to be full of what matters.
With love and intention,
Jennifer
