What Is Always In My Kitchen This Month
May 9, 2026
Every season has a kitchen rhythm. This month, the things showing up again and again are eggs, avocados, berries, tomatoes, chicken, citrus, herbs, and salad greens. Nothing complicated.
Just the things that make real meals easier.
I like a kitchen that can respond to the day. Some days that means taco bowls because everyone is going different directions. Some days it means grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, and a salad. Some days it means something from the garden, something from the fridge, and a meal that comes together because the right basics were already there.
The pantry staples are the practical ones: olive oil, spices, beans, rice, broth, coffee, and baking essentials. Those are not glamorous, but they matter. They are the difference between feeling like there is nothing to make and realizing dinner is already halfway there. A kitchen does not need to be full of unusual things to be generous. It needs to have enough useful things within reach.
This month, I am reaching for fresh herbs, citrus, cast iron cookware, wooden cutting boards, and simple serving bowls. Those details feel like Botanic Living to me. Fresh herbs because they make simple food feel alive.
Citrus because it brightens almost anything. Cast iron because it works hard and lasts. Wooden cutting boards because a kitchen should be used.
Simple serving bowls because food does not need to be overcomplicated to feel cared for. The garden adds what it can: herbs, tomatoes, peppers, and whatever is ready. That is one of the gifts of growing food, even imperfectly. It changes how you see the kitchen. You start to cook from what is actually here.
That is the kind of kitchen I want. Not one that performs. One that supports the life happening around it.
One where someone can grab a bowl, cut a tomato, squeeze citrus over something simple, or stand at the island while dinner comes together. A kitchen being used. A kitchen that knows what season it is.
With love and intention,
Jennifer
