What the Middle of Summer Is Teaching Me

The middle of summer is teaching me to stay present. July does not let me pretend that care can be occasional. The plants need water. The garden needs noticing. The tomatoes need checking. The porch flowers need attention before the heat has its way. The business needs decisions. The house needs rhythms. There is a lot to tend, and sometimes that can feel full. But there is also something grounding about it. The season is honest. It shows you quickly what needs care and what cannot be ignored.
I think that is one of the lessons of summer: growth is beautiful, but it also asks something of us. A garden in production still needs protection. A house full of people still needs clearing. A company beginning sales still needs systems. A life becoming more honest still needs courage. None of that is separate. It is all the same practice of paying attention.
This summer, I want to keep tending what is alive and let the season teach me how to care for it well.
