What Is Always In My Kitchen In July

A July kitchen has to work for the life actually happening in the house. For us, that means teenagers, their friends, hot days, food that needs to be easy, and room for creativity. I do a lot of meal planning in advance, but I do not repeat recipes constantly unless something becomes a true favorite. Cooking is one of my creative outlets. Planning, prepping, cooking, and serving all give me a place to design something useful and beautiful at the same time. My background is in design and architecture, and cooking scratches that creative itch in a very real-life way.
A recipe earns repeat status here when it is affordable, easy to throw together, and everyone likes it. Not just me and John. If the teenagers and their friends enjoy it, that is a win. This month, I am planning bright summer food like Tajin chicken jalapeno corn Caesar salad, and I have a dark chocolate mousse tucked into the plan too. I like having a few things to look forward to after travel or a full week.
A good kitchen is not just stocked. It is ready for the people who live there.
