How to Clean Glass and Mirrors Without Streaks

Streaks often come from too much product, a cloth carrying old residue, or cleaning glass in conditions that make the liquid dry too quickly. The fix is usually a lighter, more controlled method.
Start with the frame and surface
Check the manufacturer’s care instructions, especially for tinted glass, coated windows, antique mirrors, decorative frames, and electronics. Remove loose dust from the frame and surrounding ledges before cleaning the glass. Avoid flooding mirror edges, where excess liquid can reach the backing.
Use a small amount of cleaner
- Fold a clean, low-lint cloth into quarters so several fresh sides are available.
- Apply the cleaner according to its label. A light, even application is usually easier to remove than a saturated surface.
- Wipe in overlapping passes, moving from the upper area downward.
- Use a dry side of the cloth to finish the edges and any remaining lines.
If a mark remains, treat that small area instead of adding more product to the entire surface. Replace the cloth when it becomes damp or begins moving residue around.
Choose the conditions
When possible, avoid cleaning sun-heated windows. Fast evaporation can make the product harder to remove evenly. Good light from the side makes smears easier to see during the final check.
