First Day of Summer at Home
June 21, 2026
The first day of summer does not need to be complicated. In fact, I think I prefer it simple. Something fresh in the kitchen. Something growing outside. Music in the house. A little time in the garden. A meal that does not require heating up the whole house. People coming and going, but still feeling connected to home. That is what I want this summer to feel like. Slower. Simpler. More connected. I want more family, gardening, reading, and meaningful conversations. I want less noise, urgency, and unnecessary obligations.
That sounds easy to say, but it takes intention to live. Summer can fill quickly. Calendars can fill. The kitchen island can fill. The day can disappear before we ever stopped long enough to notice the light through the windows or what bloomed outside.
So I like the idea of marking the season with ordinary rituals. Walk the garden before the laptop. Put fresh fruit where people can reach it. Make something simple. Open the windows when the weather allows. Play music. Let the house feel used. Let the table be imperfect. Let people linger. The best parts of summer do not always announce themselves. Sometimes they are quiet: a bowl of berries, a half-finished cup of coffee, the sound of a record playing, someone standing at the island while food is being prepared.
Those are the moments I want to notice. Botanic Living keeps teaching me that home, food, garden, family, business, and personal growth are not separate categories. They are connected parts of a meaningful life. Summer reminds me of that too. The garden feeds the kitchen. The kitchen gathers people. The home gives everyone somewhere to return. The rhythm matters.
So this summer, I am choosing simple on purpose.
With love and intention,
Jennifer
