The Life You Are Building Is Happening Today
September 30, 2026
It is easy to think the life we want is waiting somewhere ahead of us. We imagine it will begin when the work is more settled, the house is more orderly, the plans are clearer, or the calendar finally opens up. But the longer I build, the more I believe that the life we are hoping for is not only in the future. It is also happening in the rooms we are already in.
It is there at the kitchen island while the day is coming together. It is there in music playing while dinner is made, in useful work that matters, in a shared meal, in the porch light at the end of the evening, and in the quiet minutes that belong to no one but you. None of those moments have to be extraordinary to count.
Let Today Be Part of the Story
I care deeply about meaningful work. I also care about the people, places, and small rituals that make a life feel like a life. Sometimes those things compete for our attention. Sometimes the work is demanding, the home needs tending, and the people we love need more than the part of us that is left over. There is no neat formula that makes all of that effortless.
Still, I do not think we have to treat the whole and beautiful parts of life as a reward we receive only after everything is finished. We can let them exist beside the unfinished work. We can notice the meal, the song, the conversation, the task completed with care, or the moment of stillness before we move on to what is next.
Keep the Ordinary Close
Botanic Living exists in part because I want there to be a human face behind the work we are building. A company can grow, responsibilities can multiply, and time can become scarce. Yet the person doing the work is still someone with a home, a family, a history, interests, and hopes that reach beyond a title or a task list.
That matters to me because I want to keep becoming a person who can build with ambition and remain awake to the life around her. Not perfectly. Not all at once. Just honestly, with enough attention to recognize that a good life is often made in small pieces before we know what the whole picture will look like.
Name What Is Already Here
Before September closes, pause for a moment and name one ordinary thing from today that belongs to the life you are building. It might be useful work, something you made, a table you gathered around, a room you cared for, a person you checked on, or a quiet moment that helped you return to yourself.
Let it count. The future deserves our hope, but today deserves our presence too.
With love and intention,
Jennifer
