What We Actually Do On a Long Weekend
May 24, 2026
A long weekend at home is usually not one perfect thing. It is garden, projects, family, cooking, rest, and catching up on life. That is the honest version. There may be something simple to eat. There may be people gathered around the kitchen island while food is being prepared. There may be a project that has been waiting too long, a garden that needs checking, laundry that still needs attention, and a moment where everyone finally slows down enough to notice the house again.
I like that kind of weekend. Not because it is impressive. Because it is real. I think sometimes we make gathering harder than it needs to be. We imagine it has to look a certain way before it counts. But some of the best moments happen in ordinary settings with ordinary people. The food does not have to be complicated. The house does not have to be perfect. The day does not have to be full of planned activities.
People need places where they can exhale. That is what I want home to offer. Something simple to eat. Good conversation. Fresh air if the weather allows. Music in the background. The garden nearby. A table or island where people can gather without feeling like they have to impress anyone. A long weekend can be a way of catching up to your own life. Checking the garden.
Cooking something useful. Resting. Celebrating a milestone if there is one. Letting the house be used. Letting simple traditions be enough. There is something meaningful about marking time without performing it. Sometimes the ordinary weekend is the one people remember because it felt safe, welcoming, and full of life.
With love and intention,
Jennifer
